Keep a tax return closed while Filed is printing or updating it
Last updated: September 30, 2026
When Filed is working with a specific tax return, that tax return should stay closed in the tax software client locator until Filed finishes the current action.
This applies while Filed is:
Processing AI data entry
Printing a draft PDF tax return
Resending changes back to the tax software after an initial AI Prep run
During these actions, Filed may need exclusive access to that specific tax return. If the return is opened in the tax software client locator at the same time, the tax software may show that the return is in use, locked, or being edited.
Important: The lock is tied to the specific tax return being processed in the tax software. It is not caused by simply viewing the client or workflow in Filed. Navigating away from the client in Filed will not unlock the return. The return becomes available again after Filed finishes the active print, data-entry, or resend process.
Once the draft PDF has finished printing, or once Filed has completed the active data-entry or resend process, you can reopen that tax return in the tax software client locator.
Note: You can still use the tax software while Filed is working. Only the specific tax client or tax return being processed, printed, or updated by Filed needs to remain closed.
If the tax software still shows the return as locked after Filed has finished, you can clear the lock directly inside CCH Axcess:
Open CCH Axcess Tax Return Manager.
Select Manage or Utilities on the ribbon.
Click Unlock Return or Unlock Returns in Use.
Locate the return, for example
2025I:xyz123:V1(Taxpayer Name), and release the checkout.
