Can Filed analyze across multiple clients with the same owner group?
Last updated: September 8, 2026
Short answer: Yes. You do not need to consolidate documents into a separate combined "client group" client. If each entity is already set up as a separate client, Filed can analyze across those entities from a workspace-level Chat or Analyst workflow.
Before you start
Each entity needs to have had Tax Prep or binder ingestion run at least once so Filed has extracted data to work from. The quality of the cross-entity analysis depends on how complete that extraction is for each client.
When to use workspace-level Chat
Use a workspace-level chat when you want to ask questions across multiple clients or entities instead of focusing on one specific client.
Open Chat without selecting or anchoring the conversation to a specific client.
Ask your cross-client question using the owner group, entity names, or another consistent identifier.
Examples:
“Show me all entities owned by the Smith family group.”
“Compare K-1 income across these three LLCs.”
“Which entities had a loss this year?”
"Summarize ordinary income and distributions across all S-corps owned by [owner name]."
Example workspace-level prompt
You can ask something like:
Summarize the income and loss position across all entities owned by [owner group name].
Filed will use the available extracted data from the relevant clients in the workspace to generate a summary across all matching entities.
Tips for better results
If the entities share a naming pattern, include that pattern in your prompt.
If the owner’s name appears consistently across client records, use that owner name to scope the analysis.
If you already know the entity names, list them directly in your question.
Do I need to create a combined client group?
No. You are not required to create a separate combined client or upload duplicate documents into a “client group” client. Keeping each entity as its own client is fine. Use workspace-level Chat or Analyst to analyze across them.
Current limitations
There is no formal "client group" or consolidated entity structure in Filed today.
A single Tax Prep or Tax Review run cannot span multiple clients.
Tax Planning strategies are generated per client, so multi-entity optimization (e.g., aggregating QBI, coordinating losses across entities) would need to be handled through workspace-level chat.
