Review Protocols and Playbook Rulesets
Last updated: October 1, 2026
During review, rulesets from your firm’s playbook are applied automatically by default.
The protocol selection step is provided so reviewers can turn off a ruleset when it should not apply to a particular client or engagement. For example, a firm may have a standard protocol that is not relevant for a specific client’s return.
How it works
- All applicable playbook rulesets are enabled by default when review begins.
- Reviewers can deselect a ruleset to exclude it from that review.
- You do not need to manually enable the default rulesets.
Why this option exists
Firms may use exceptions or client-specific workflows. Allowing a reviewer to turn off a ruleset preserves that flexibility while keeping the firm’s standard playbook active by default.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to select every ruleset before starting a review?
No. Rulesets are automatically applied by default.
Why can I change the selected protocols?
You can turn off a protocol when it is not appropriate for the client or engagement being reviewed.
Does leaving the default selection unchanged apply the firm’s playbook?
Yes. Leaving the default selections on applies the applicable rulesets from the firm’s playbook.
