Why did the return complete with zero/blank entries after data entry was marked done?
Last updated: April 7, 2026
If your return shows as completed but the fields in your tax software are blank or contain zero values, this typically indicates an issue with the data entry step. The resolution depends on which tax software you are using.
CCH Axcess
This is a known occurrence with CCH Axcess and is often caused by a cached or unrecalculated return.
Step 1 — Recalculate the Return: Open the tax return directly in CCH Axcess and click Recalculate. In many cases, this will cause the fields to populate correctly.
Step 2 — Re-run Tax Prep: If recalculating does not resolve the issue, go back to Filed and click Re-run Tax Prep to attempt data entry again.
Step 3 — Contact Support: If the issue persists after both steps above, the problem may be related to the .DAT file configuration. Possible causes include:
Incorrect return configuration
Office location mismatch
V1 vs. V2
.DATfile discrepancy
If this is the case, one of our engineers will need to review the configuration internally. Please contact Filed support to escalate.
Drake Software
There is no commonly known cause for blank entries in Drake after a completed data entry, but it can occasionally occur.
What to do: Click the Re-run Tax Prep button to attempt data entry again. If the issue continues after a second attempt, please contact Filed support so our team can investigate.
ProConnect
Blank entries in ProConnect after a completed return require engineering-level investigation to diagnose.
What to do: Report the issue to Filed support immediately. Our engineers may be able to debug the issue by reviewing the Browserbase AI bot recording of the data entry session, which can help identify exactly where and why the entries failed.
UltraTax CS
Similar to ProConnect, blank entries in UltraTax after a completed return require engineering review.
What to do: Report the issue to Filed support so our engineers can take a closer look and identify the cause of the blank entries.
