How to Connect UltraTax to Filed

Follow the steps shown in the below to connect your UltraTax software to Filed.

Best Practice: Installing the Filed Sync App

  • The app can be installed on a workstation, and it will function properly. However, if that computer is restarted, logged out, or goes offline, the Sync App may need to be reopened and logged back in before syncing resumes.

To avoid interruptions and ensure seamless syncing, an always-on machine is the recommended setup but the app can be installed on multiple machines.

How to connect UltraTax to Filed

  • Log in to your Filed account.

  • In the left panel, go to Connect > Tax Software.

  • Find UltraTax, and click Connect.

  • Review details, and click Connect.

  • A new page will appear stating UltraTax is connected but this is not a live connection. To set up a live connection, click Set up Filed App.

If you are using Virtual Office or unable to download the Filed App, please skip the download step and proceed ahead to the step: Retrieve your client export file from UltraTax

Download the Filed App

  • Click Download.

    • Locate and click on the Filed App download.

    • In the Filed App Setup window, click Next until you finish the Filed App setup flow.

    • You should see a sign in page with a Connection ID and Password field. 

  • In your Filed account, you can view and copy your Connection ID and Password field.

  • In the Filed App, paste your your Connection ID and Password field. Click Sign In.

  • Click Select Directory to select your Ultra Tax folderSelect your folder.

    • It should default to selecting the Ultra Tax folder with your client documents, but please confirm it's the correct folder.

  • Click Activate Connection. There will not be any activity yet as you have not sent any completed returns.

Retrieve your client export file from UltraTax

  • Log in to UltraTax

  • From the top menu, click Utilities.

  • From Utilities, select Client Listing Report.

  • Leave the default of General Client Information & Client ID and click Continue

  • Select all of your 1040 clients (that should be sent to Filed) and then click Export.

Upload client export file to Filed

  • Return to your Filed account.

  • Either browse for the downloaded export file or drag and drop it into the allocated space where Filed prompts you to upload your client information.

  • Finally, click Configure to complete the connection.

  • In Integrations tab, you should see Connected for UltraTax. You're done!

Whenever you add a new client to UltraTax, you will need to re-upload this list, so Filed has the latest information.
